There is an interesting new bar coming to Cincinnati’s Over the Rhine district in March of 2015, with the décor of a turn of the century apothecary shop. Located on 13th and Republic, this small bar will seat 55 and is the maiden venture for Circle Hospitality Group, a new group lead by co-founders Stuart King and Julia Petiprin.
In a press release, King stated “We’re striving to create a world-class neighborhood bar and cocktail program with a warm, comfortable sensibility and design aligned to the ethos of OTR.”
Petiprin will be in charge of the unique and evolving cocktail menu, which will make use of a wide variety of syrups, spirits and homemade concoctions.
So far it seems unlikely the bar will have any food on the menu, although King and Petiprin do not count out the possibility of changing their minds based on future demand.
It seems as if they have every detail for this bar figured out already; except the name.
Maybe it will be something simple and to the point like “The Apothecary,” maybe they’ll go for a French theme with “L’Apothecaire,” or perhaps they’ll base it off a turn of the century apothecary shop that actually existed. All of that is entirely uninformed guesswork, but with the opening day looming and a name yet to be announced, it’s certainly fun to speculate!
Whatever the name ends up being, there’s one thing that you can count on. Their drinks are going to be incredible.Circle Hospitality Group consulted with Brandyn Tepper and Matt Landes, both of the Cocktail Academy of Downtown Los Angeles, for the strategy of the bar.
Expect a warm and inviting array of dark woods, leather booths, and vintage, moody lighting throughout the 1,200 square foot space.
So, in the most happening part of Cincinnati, will this cocktail bar thrive? Having yet to try one of their cocktail concoctions, I haven’t the faintest idea. Though I will say, the success of this bar appears to rely on the mixology that Julia Petiprin will bring to the table. A unique bar will bring the customers in, but great drinks is what will keep them coming back.
