Cure for the common hangover: Cocktails anyone?

Cure for the common hangover: Cocktails anyone?

Bloody Marys are considered one of the most well-known, if not best hangover cure. Whether you’re drinking a “Hillbilly Bloody” (beer and tomato juice) or a gourmet Bloody Mary, there’s something about a bloody that get’s the job done.

Gourmet Bloody Mary

Fill shaker 3/4 ice.
Prep glass by running lime slice around glass and salting with pretzel or cocktail salt salt

• 1 1/4 oz vodka
• up to 1 tbsp olive juice
• squeeze a slice of freshly cut lime (drop peal into shaker)
• a shake of celery salt and pepper
• 1 shake Tabasco
• 1 or 2 shakes Worcestershire sauce
• 1/4 tsp horseradish (to taste)
• 5 or so torn cilantro leaves
• add your favorite bloody Mary mix… v8, spicy v8, even clameto juice or daily’s mix

Shake and strain into salted glass.

Once you’ve filled your glass the fun starts. It’s time to decorate. Using a skewer, stab a banana pepper, followed by a dill slice, twisted salami slice and a pickle spear. Drop into drink.
A piece of celery and/or jumbo blue cheese stuffed olives (use a skewer or toothpick) are a nice bonus.

The finishing touches make the bloody. One or two large shrimp tucked around the rim adds a “wow” factor. Adding cheese and vegetable boards to the table is never a bad idea. I could go on and on about the accompaniments you can add to this gourmet pleasure…

(Hint) Bacon goes with everything. Feta cheese works if you don’t savor blue cheese. Make this drink your own!

Hangover shots… or Hair of the Dog

Tang with a Twang

Fill shaker 3/4 ice.
• 1 1/4 oz Stoli Oranj
• 1 tbsp sugar (to taste)
• squeeze 1 orange and lime slice (drop peels into shaker)
• 1 1/4 oz orange juice

Shake and add to tang rimmed glass.

Breakfast shot

Fill shaker 3/4 ice.
• 1 1/4 oz Jameson
• 1 1/4 oz butterscotch schnapps
Shake and strain.

This shot is chased with a shot of orange juice.

If you substitute the Jameson with blueberry vodka, you have a “blueberry pancake” shot.

Hangover Hydration Pro-tips
• Adding Gatorade to flavored vodka will help hydrate as well. Pomegranate vodka and grape Powerade are great flavors to mix. Melon vodka also goes well with melon Powerade. My personal favorite is Three Olives Berry vodka with “Blue Frost” Gatorade. I suggest you try your favorite flavors.
• Many people add raw eggs to beer or to their bloody marys. Although it’s not for me, if it sounds appetizing to you, be my guest.
• Don’t forget to drink a glass of water between drinks. Happy New Year!!!
