The sold out North Market Mix and Shake
… was one hot and heavy party …
… turning up the heat with nine local distilleries for its first of a kind spirits event in partnership with the Ohio Distiller’s Guild.
The party started with an immediate stop at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams for sample scoops — and then more sample scoops — and well, let’s just say Jeni’s lends itself to copious sampling and is the new official ice cream of Now It’s Dark!
On an ice cream high, we moved on to get our “Don Draper” mac daddy experience at Watershed Distillery with an old fashioned.
Wandering around in a specific direction to ensure “complete coverage” for our readers took the NID team over to Middle West Spirits (OYO) who seemed to be having a great time mixing and passing out olive-skewered samples.
Our attention quickly turned to The Fish Guys for the most amazing oysters we had ever tasted. These beauties were epic and caused our opinions to forever change about a great experience. Though there are many different types of oysters, and we are told as many different specially designed knifes to open them, Delaware Bay oysters from the Fish Guys set the bar higher for a great choice. Of course, it takes about five raw oysters to really know for sure that they are great…
Sipping our drinks we continued onto Pistacia Vera. They passed out heavily macaroons which are french confections made with egg white, icing sugar, sugar, almond powder and food coloring that has ganache, butter cream or jam filling. The cherry macaroon we tasted was delightful.
The authentic Vietnamese restaurant Lan Viet Market served tasty crab balls in a light broth. Lan Viet is my favorite spot for lunch in the North Market.
The Portside Distillery team shared some of their award winning spiced rum in a Winter Warmer mixed drink.
Foolery was happening at Tom’s Foolery Distillery, as the drinks were shaken and not stirred.
We loved the color and flavor of Buckeye Vodka‘s Raspberry bucken mule.
The ever gracious Rick Harrison Wolfe, executive director of the North Market, greeted NID and posted for a picture.
What’s a party without music, as the Derek DiCenzo Trio brought the fun of live music to the party.
The North Market is the perfect dining destination because even the most diverse group of friends can find food to enjoy together in a lively atmosphere.
The North Market is open Sunday and Monday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Tuesday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
